GIS Map Projects

In my GIS Principles course at Fleming College I acquired knowledge of GIS systems and digital mapping for the natural resources sector. One of the maps created for this course involved digitizing GPS waypoints, learning how to utilize ArcGIS Online to import layers from Land Information Ontario and Ontario Provincial Mapping. The learning outcome I achieved was understanding how wetlands can be mapped from field data sheets, as well as competency in accurate field data collection.

The second map found on this page was created for the goals of learning how to download layers from an ArcGis organization, as well as utilizing tools such as union, intersect and clipping. Through this, I was able to learn how data can further be analyzed on ArcGis Pro to answer key ecological questions about the habitat suitability for certain species, in this case the Barred Owl, as well as the overlap between the natural and digital world to solve ecological problems.
